Current Events - Everyone


Directions, cont: Your response must show that you have a full understanding of the article while giving a synthesis (or an opinion with facts from the article that support that opinion) .

How to Construct Your Response: You need to explain why it was important to respond to each article seperately, what are your views on the issue (identify the issues and explain your views), how does the issue affect you and society, and what is a possible solution to the problem. Summarizing this article is strictly prohibited.

To Respond:

1. You should scroll to the bottom of this posting and click on the link that says "O COMMENTS."

2. Afterwards, type your response in the space provided on the right.

3. In the "NAME/URL" field, put your first initial, last name and period so that you receive credit for the assignment.

4. Then make sure you click "PUBLISH YOUR COMMENT"

Note: You will not be able to immediately see your post published because I must approve them individually.

Grading: Refer to the original assignment sheet for the grading rubric.

EXAMPLE OF HOW TO DO THE ASSIGNMENT
Example Response: I found this article very easy to respond to because it relates to my future. The reason that I say that is because I want to get accepted into college the right way. I don’t want to get rejected because of a petty myspace or facebook profile. I would rather make sure my background is college worthy. I also agree that colleges should check out applicants’ social background because they want to know who they are letting into their school. They may not want any negative-minded people into the college. The reason why I say that is because colleges should be filled with good people that are really serious about their education. I feel that applicants’ should conduct their social life in a good manner if they want to be known as college material. Like some people say “If you want to be something, act like you want to be something.” I don’t think colleges are wrong for this matter. I think they just want to know everything they can possibly know about who’s applying to their school, whether the information comes from their application and facebook/myspace combined. I applaud colleges for doing that.
Remember, you must make a seperate response for each article. That means you have to write a response to each article individually, for a total of 5 responses!!

New Directions for Syllabus

Students,
A number of you all have complained to me stating that you're not able to print the syllabus. This is totally understandable! I will have copies avaliable on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Please make sure you have page 3 of the syllabus turned in by Friday of this week. Also, we will push our syllabus test to Monday and Tuesday of next week.

FINAL EXAM, MAKEUP, TAKE HOME, etc.

On FRIDAY, MAY 15, 2009, you will be administered the Final Exam.

Thursday, May 14, 2009, we will have a review game.

Monday, May 18, 2009 is the designated makeup date for the exam, along with the due date for the take-home portion.

Please make sure you have turned in your books!!
